History

Bracken Construction Company was established in 1956 in Jackson, Mississippi, by the Bracken family with a vision to build a local steel erection company capable of supporting the rapid growth taking place across the region. As the company grew, Bracken expanded its customer base and began purchasing cranes to support its steel erection work. That investment soon led to crane services for customers throughout the local market, establishing Bracken as a trusted name in steel erection and crane service across Mississippi.

For decades, the Bracken family remained at the heart of the company. J.C. Bracken eventually assumed ownership and later transitioned the day-to-day operations to his sons, Chris and Jeff Bracken. Under Chris and Jeff’s leadership, Bracken continued to grow while staying true to the reputation and values on which the company was built. They expanded the company’s capabilities, strengthened its crane operations and added general rental equipment, ultimately establishing what is now known as Bracken Equipment. Their leadership carried the family business forward for more than two decades and laid an important foundation for Bracken’s next chapter.

In 2015, John Ross McCartney joined Bracken with a vision to expand the company into heavy industrial construction. He established Bracken’s Industrial Division, bringing new talent and expertise to the company and developing relationships in growing industrial markets, particularly the steel mill industry. The division quickly expanded Bracken’s capabilities to include process equipment installation, precision alignment and other specialized industrial services.

In 2020, John Ross purchased the business from the Bracken family, marking a new chapter in the company’s history. Bracken Industrial was consolidated under Bracken Construction, bringing the company’s construction, industrial and equipment capabilities together under one organization.

Today, Bracken continues to build upon the foundation established by the Bracken family nearly seven decades ago. Under John Ross’ leadership, the company has grown into one of the Southeast’s leading steel erection, crane service and heavy industrial contractors, performing more than one million man-hours annually while remaining committed to the principles that have defined Bracken from the beginning: safety, quality and dependable service.
